Select Board Hears Public Safety Building Feasibility Study

West Stockbridge Select Board heard a feasibility study for a regional public safety facility consolidating the Department of Public Works, Police, and Fire departments. The consulting firm Weston & Sampson, funded by a Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness grant, recommended 72 Albany Road as the preferred site after screening all 26 town-owned properties. The proposed facility would house 39 combined staff and 33 vehicles across both departments, with an estimated total project cost of $48,560,000 if constructed in 2028.
The study identified potential state, federal, and local funding sources and outlined climate resilience strategies including nature-based stormwater solutions, backup power, and emergency sheltering capacity.
